St. Quirinus’ Church in the town of Krk

St. Quirinus’ Church in the town of Krk

In the 12th century, a rare, and in these parts unique, two storey Romanesque church was built next to the cathedral.

The early Romanesque St. Quirinus’ church, dedicated to the town’s patron saint (on the square of the same name), is attached to the cathedral. This unusual church is built of local, white stone and is unique in the wider area due to its two levels (the ground floor and the first floor). In the lower part is a church dedicated to St. Margaret, with the church dedicated to St. Quirinus being on the upper level. It was once a three-naved church, although nowadays it has two naves as one was transformed into an aisle.
