St. Donatus’ Church in Kornić

St. Donatus’ Church in Kornić

Close to the town of Krk

A small church worthy of pause...

Although it is on the roadside, and maybe precisely because of that, this exceptional sample of early Romanesque architecture often remains unnoticed due to the fast driving traffic going by. On the road from Krk in the direction of Punat, at the very bottom of Punat Bay, is the small St. Donatus’ church. It was built around the 12th century and does not have a carved stone façade. The church is of great significance and is one of the most famous sacral monuments on the Croatian coast, together with the churches in Zadar and Nin.
