The Benedictine monastery and Church of St. Mary of the Angels in the town of Krk

The Benedictine monastery is located along the edge of the Trg glagoljaša Square, in the northern part of the town of Krk. The history of the monastery dates back to the 13th century, and since 1506 can be traced directly. Only the noble women of Krk could enter the monastery for a certain period. This caused the number of nuns to decline, and at the beginning of the 17th century, at the invitation of the bishop, two nuns from Cres came to rebuild it. The monastery has been in the service of education for years. From 1806 to 1903, a girl's primary school operated here, and from 1921 to 1935 there was a boarding school for high school students. Next to the monastery is the Church of St. Mary of the Angels with its bell tower. The first mention of this church dates back to the 14th century, and the interior was remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18th century when Sebastian Petrucci from Rijeka erected the main altar.
