The Krk Inscription

The Krk Inscription

In the town of Krk

The Krk Inscription, one of the oldest Glagolitic finds, together with the Plomin Inscription and the Valun Tablet was found in the Town of Krk, a town of Roman culture where the Glagolitic script was not present as it was in other parts of the island.

The Krk Inscription stone slab was found built into the building in dr. Dinko Vitezić Street, but this building was eight centuries younger, so the stone with a fragment in that place was only used as building material. In order to protect it from bad weather, it was removed from the outer wall and placed inside the entrance to the building in 1953. The inscription itself dates back to the 11th century and four rows with 35 letters of round Glagolitic script can be distinguished. The inscription is considered incomplete, as only the top part is complete, while all the other parts are missing.
