The Church of St. Nicholas behind Bag

The Church of St. Nicholas behind Bag

Close to Baška

This church is only reachable by boat or walking along the trails. It is located on the high ground of St. Nicholas’ Cape, south of Baška. Built in the early Romanesque style, it is assumed that it is a votive church as there are no traces of population nearby. St. Nicholas is known as the protector of sailors and fishermen, so people often took a vow to this saint in places that were dangerous for navigation. The church was used until the middle of the 16th century.
