Corinthia – Bosar

Close to Baška

East of Baška, between the two deep bays of Vela and Mala Luka, appear the Sokol Peninsula and the Bosar area. This area is isolated from the mainland by up to 350 m high hills and is accessible from the east by sea. The naval port of the Liburnian Navy was located here as early as in the 7th century BC. In late antiquity, this area was inhabited, and is related to the period of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I, who ruled in the 6th century. The area is dominated by the remains of the fort (kastron) at an elevation of 129 m. The foot of the hill reveals the remains of a larger settlement with three churches and two wells. The most recent buildings are the remains of the monastery of St. Nicholas from the 16th century.
